Bluetooth Earpieces
If you ride a bicycle or enjoy driving around with the top down in a convertible, you’ll find that the most important feature in a bluetooth headset is the noise cancelation. I set out to track down the best headset for such activities. With the vast array of devices out there, I started my search on the Internet. I narrowed down the selection to three units:
- Jabra Extreme2
- Plantronics Voyager PRO HD
- BlueAnt T1 Rugged
I then set out to purchase all three for testing. Unfortunately, I was not able to locate the BlueAnt T1 at any major stores locally (Verizon, Best Buy, etc.). I did, however, acquire the other two for about $20 more than can be found on Internet sites.
I tested the Jabra Extreme2 in my convertible at moderate city driving speeds and though the other party did hear wind noise they said I was still clear enough to understand. This was not the case with the Plantronics Voyager PRO HD. At even half the speed it was apparent that not much I said could be understood any longer.
If I get my hands on a BlueAnt T1 I’ll add it to this review, but meanwhile the Jabra Extreme2 is the clear winner by default.
Update: A number of earpieces have been tested since, and the absolute best unit has been the Sennheiser Presence. When I first purchased one they cost around $170, but can now be obtained for under $70. While high wind noise can still disrupt communication as the noise filtering eventually cuts out all speech, it’s proven to be the best unit for outdoor use.
