Toshiba’s coming out with an Android tablet – this is a tablet I might even consider instead of the laptop I use on rare occasion. Although, it ‘s substantially thicker than an iPad 2, the Toshiba does have the benefit of a 10.1″ 1280 x 800 display, SD card slot, USB ports (both mini and standard), HDMI port, stereo speakers, replaceable battery, and a lack of feeling like you’re on probation by Apple when you use it. Also, the case is ribbed, not some smooth polished metal that easily slips from your hand. Oh, and it does run Flash.

There’s also the Motorola Xoom which is very similar and available with and without Verizon 3G/4G access (i.e. a WiFi only version like the Toshiba). Unfortunately, the lack of an easily replaceable battery can be a drawback for some people.
Update: I suspect that many people who may be interested in a tablet already have a smart phone. An option for them is to simply utilize their smart phone’s Internet connection to connect the tablet. This can usually be achieve through a bluetooth connection between the phone and the tablet. One drawback is that many phones don’t allow data and voice access at the same time so you couldn’t talk to someone on the phone and use the Internet connection from the tablet at the same time.
